- Tracking & visual memory
- Eye hand coordination
- Gross Motor / Fine Motoe skills
- Sensory Processing / Sensory modulation
- Cognitive functioning
- Handwriting and letter formation
- Reflexes
- Self-cares such as feeding, dressing, sleeping, toileting
- Equipment assessments
- School readiness
When to get an assessment
An Occupational Therapy assessment is recommended
when children are having difficulty with movement difficulties, poor attention,
difficulty initiating and finishing tasks or self-organisation, difficulties with sensory modulation/sensory processing, social interaction or self-care skills such as dressing, toileting, feeding or handwriting. We can provide support and strategies to problem-solve and area of concern.
Our specialist Occupational Therapists asses for the sensory, motor, visual perceptual, visual motor,
emotional and cognitive skills that are the essential building blocks of skill
development and the foundations for a child’s activity engagement.
Intervention
At
Therapy Sense we use evidence-based interventions to target the areas of need
such as a motor skills programme, social skills programme, cognitive therapy,
visual perception therapy, behaviour
management programmes, sensory modulation programmes, equipment provision,
targeted self-care programmes, to help your child succeed and improve their
quality of life.
School Readiness
Therapy Sense provides specialist services to assess and assist for school readiness. We aim to work closely with carers, teachers, and other medical health professionals to support families, schools, and early education providers. We help your child to develop their self-care independence, emotional regulation, social skills, and fine and gross motor skill development. We provide standardized assessments of your child’s abilities, with an action plan to help your child to be ready for school. Targeted programmes help facilitate a smooth transition to school, with programmes aimed at developing these skills. Written updates and feedback by our experienced therapists are given along the way.
Neurological Rehabilitation Services
Our Occupational Therapists are skilled at
neurological assessments and rehabilitation. Following a concussion or brain
injury, the brain needs time to recover and heal. Our Occupational Therapists
can guide you through the recovery stage and help you re-engage in activities
that are important to you at the right pace to help you achieve your goals. By
engaging in a targeted programme, the brain begins to form new neural pathways.
This can improve how the brain processes information from our senses and improve
motor skills such as coordination and balance, and enhance cognitive abilities
such as memory, attention, and problem-solving skills. In addition, we offer
evidence-based psychosocial interventions to help with coping skills and boost
confidence and resilience
